Jimmy Carter served as President of the United States from 1977 to 1981. Since leaving office, he has worked as a roving peace negotiator, election monitor (through the Carter Center), home builder (through Habitat for Humanity) and author of sixteen books, many of which are now in revised editions. For his untiring effort to find peaceful solutions to international conflicts, to advance democracy and human rights, and to promote economic and social development in the last decades in 2002 he was awarded with the Nobel Peace Prize.

In 1982, Jimmy Carter became University Distinguished Professor at Emory University in Atlanta and founded The Carter Center. Actively guided by President Carter, the non-partisan and non-profit center addresses national and international issues of public policy. President Carter and his wife are regular volunteers for Habitat for Humanity, a non-profit organization that helps needy people renovate and build homes for themselves.
